Dear Expectant Parents,
The birth of your child is one of the most important days in your life. It’s only natural that you would do whatever you can to make it a very positive experience. If this is indeed your goal, I highly recommend enlisting the support of Rhonda Davis as your child birth doula. Rhonda attended the birth of my son and proved to be an invaluable asset to my husband and me.
Rhonda was responsive to my needs before, during, and after the labor experience. Rhonda interviewed us extensively during the last two months of my pregnancy. She made certain that we were educated about the child birth process and that we had thought about how we wanted the big day to go. She loaned us books and videos to assist in our preparation. She took detailed notes regarding all our hopes and dreams and assisted us in developing a detailed birth plan. When my due date came and went, Rhonda stayed in close contact with me to see how I was holding up and provided support to help get me through the third trimester.
On the day of my son’s birth, Rhonda seamlessly incorporated all of our wishes in to the labor experience. It appeared that she had memorized the notes she had taken and the birth plan we had drawn up. I say this, because Rhonda was by my side throughout the experience executing everything we had recorded, yet never once stopped to refer to her notes. Her preparation and consideration in advance was of great benefit to me during my time of need.
During our post partum visits and conversations, Rhonda once again proved her worth. She was able to answer all my questions about my labor by referring to the rich notes she had recorded on the day I delivered. The child birth experience is intense and surreal. I found it difficult to process everything that had happened. However, using Rhonda as a resource, I have been able to piece together the entire day and replay it in my head as a way to savor the day I met my baby face to face. Finally, I will treasure forever the pictures that she took of my labor. Two months later I still look at them almost daily. She also posted photos on her web site that my family could view while I was still in the hospital.
In an effort to keep this letter to a reasonable length, I will refrain from recording the many other things that Rhonda did that I found helpful.
